Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Travis Johnson, 28, La Crosse, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 90 months in prison for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. Johnson pleaded guilty to this charge on March 8, 2011.

On April 26, 2010, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Johnson's residence, where they recovered a jar containing liquid methamphetamine and materials, chemicals and equipment to manufacture methamphetamine. Johnson and his wife were arrested at that time.

At sentencing, Judge Crabb stated that Johnson deserved a lengthy prison sentence due to the fact that the police recovered over 300 grams of methamphetamine in liquid form and because Johnson and his wife manufactured the methamphetamine in a residence where their young children could be harmed by the toxic chemicals and manufacturing process.

Amber Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13, 2011, for her role in the case.

The charges against Travis Johnson were the result of an investigation conducted by the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department, La Crosse Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff's Department, and Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul W. Connell.
